My name is Vanessa: Day 1
When I had arrived at the institute, I was a little nervous and just not knowing what to expect from this. I didn't know anyone from the group except one person. I had come because my sister had told me about this leadership institute and how fun and awarding it can be. While I am here, I want to develop more leadership skills to use in my daily life such as school or community projects. A motto that goes with me is "enjoy the little things in life" because sometimes people can take advantages of things and not everything last forever.
Challenge day: 2
Today when I gotten to the challenge course, I thought that we were going to do really hard workout but it turned out we were just going to do things that had physical activities and included things that we had to learn and develop as leaders. My first Challenge course was the zip line. At first, I was nervous because I am a little bit spooked by heights and it was challenging when I had gotten to the top. I didn't want to drop and just climb down, but I took the challenge and survived! When I was going down, it felt exhilarating! I felt as if I was on top of the world. When I had finished the challenge course, I felt like I could climb Mt. Everest and survive it. I learned from this challenge course that with just a little push from the things that I am afraid to conquer, I am able to do the things I would never expect from myself. As a result from this, I had more confidence in myself.
On Wednesday, we had gone to the Oregon Science Marine to explore the kind of animals and their characteristics. We had dissected fish and raced with crabs! Afterwards, we had gone to a park to have lunch. While we were eating, we all were just enjoying our time at the park, talking to our friends, looking at the view, or just relaxing. When we had finished, we had gone to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. At first, I thought that it wasn't going to be a fun thing to do, but it turned out that there was many things to do at the aquarium that just walk around an old place. We had seen fishes, sea otters, jellyfish, sea horses, and even sharks!! The day had gone from boring to fun! We had gone to the beach later and even though the water was freezing, I still went in the water haha! My friend and I had gone to the other side of the beach and found out that the beach very quiet and peaceful. We had lunch later and had to come up with something to do for the talent show. Our group has a skit and were presenting tonight so I'm hoping that it all goes well! Then after lunch, we headed back to our second home and had a little "race" with another group. It was just joking around, but then it got intense. Even though we were going really fast and yelling "Y.O.L.O.!", it was very fun :). When we had finally arrived to the dorms, everyone was really tired and just wanted to go to sleep. As the group got dimissed, had was basically fallen asleep and we all went to our rooms to end the day.
Thank you everyone and the staff for being here and being apart from this experience! I will never forget this and always cherish this event! I hope to all see everyone soon! Ciao :D
